Theme of the open session organized by IFLA New Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG) during IFLA WLIC 2016 in Columbus, Ohio, USA:

Failing successfully in a librarian’s career: is a setback an opportunity to grow, or just an unwelcome incident on the road to success?

Management of failure is a critical topic when referring to innovation and creativity. If failure will be a natural occurrence in every creative and innovative librarian’s professional life, management of failure should be discussed in the library world.

The NPSIG open session will provide an opportunity to share experiences between librarians of different generations (very new professionals, as well as most experienced librarians), and to learn about failure and failure management.

Papers presenting psychological aspects or real library initiatives in the failure management field are preferred. Papers should reflect the 2016 IFLA Columbus conference theme “Connections. Collaboration. Community.”

Online comments received before and during the session will enrich the discussion on-site.

Submission of the papers for IFLA WLIC 2016 is closed on 28 of February.
