The IFLA New Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG) invites you to submit a proposal for its open session to be held in Columbus, Ohio, USA, in August 2016.

Theme: “Failing successfully in a librarian’s career: is a setback an opportunity to grow, or just an unwelcome incident on the road to success?”

Management of failure is a critical topic when referring to innovation and creativity. If failure will be a natural occurrence in every creative and innovative librarian’s professional life, management of failure should be discussed in the library world.

The NPSIG open session will provide an opportunity to share experiences between librarians of different generations (very new professionals, as well as most experienced librarians), and to learn about failure and failure management.

Papers presenting psychological aspects or real library initiatives in the failure management field are preferred. Papers should reflect the 2016 IFLA Columbus conference theme “Connections. Collaboration. Community.”

Online comments received before and during the session will enrich the discussion on-site.

Submission Guidelines

Full abstracts (in English) of up to 500 words should be submitted for review by members of the Special Interest Group.

The deadline for submitting a detailed abstract, including title and full author details (name, professional affiliation, postal address, email address) is February 28th 2016.

Please submit abstracts as an attached .odt, .doc or .docx file to: npsig.ifla@gmail.com

The abstracts (as well as finished paper and presentation) will be original, previously unpublished work.

Presenters will be notified whether their abstract is accepted by 1 April 2016.

Completed papers (in any of IFLA’s official languages) must be submitted no later than 1 June 2016. Presentations (if any) should be in English.
