Scholarships, Grants, and Fellowships to attend the 2016 IFLA Conference

The IFLA World Library and Information Congress is to be held on August 13-19, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A. It is the 82nd IFLA General Conference and Assembly focused around the theme, “Connections. Collaboration. Community.” The location for this conference is fitting for this theme because Columbus is home to OCLC – Online Computer Library Center and renowned libraries. The following blog post is about funding and grant opportunities for library professionals, early career professionals, or students interested in attending this rewarding professional event.

82nd IFLA World Library and Information Congress Grants

IFLA 2016 National Committee Fellowship Grant Application – Offers up to 50 full fellowships to librarians outside North American (U.S. and Canada) to attend IFLA 2016 Conference. Priority will be given to early career professionals with minimum of 5 years of experience in the field and to those who do not regularly attend conferences.

The application deadline is December 31, 2015.
How to apply

IFLA 2016 National Committee Fellowship Grant Application: Canada and USA – Offers up to one hundred 1,000 dollar fellowships to librarians, library staff, and library students in the USA and Canada to attend the IFLA Congress. With this fellowship, the funds are dispersed to the individuals to flexibly cover registration, travel, lodging, or daily expenses based on need.

The application deadline is December 31, 2015.
How to apply

IFLA-BibLibre International Marketing Library Award for 2016 – This award will have up to 10 finalists chosen for their outstanding achievements, specifically in marketing, and 3 winners will be selected. The first and second place winners will receive airfare, lodging, and registration for the 82nd IFLA General Conference and Assembly. The cash awards are in the sums of €2,000, €1,000, €500, which will be used to further their marketing efforts, and will be awarded to the first, second and third-place winners.

The application proposal must present an original project of marketing for a library of any kind, answer each question on the application, fully explain the marketing project and strategy, and summarize the results.

The application deadline is January 10, 2016, winners will be announced in March 2016.

American Library Association Awards and Grants

2015 Laura Bush 21st Century Library Program grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to American Library Association. This $50,000 grant will provide fifty $1,000 scholarships to help a diverse group of librarians, library staff, and library students in the United States to attend IFLA congress. The Laura Bush program grant supports recruiting and educating of library students and continuing education for those already in the profession. The fellowship grants will be awarded to individuals in the early or middle stage (20 years or fewer) of their careers who are not already engaged in IFLA activities. This will help promote diversity in next generation participants and leaders. Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents of the United States are eligible to receive these scholarships. The scholarship will help cover costs of travel, hotel, meals, and registration.

The application deadline is December 31, 2015.
How to apply

2015 Bogle Pratt International Library Travel Fund – This travel fund of $1000 will be awarded to an ALA personal member to attend their first international conference. The award may be applied to any conference sponsored by an international organization or a conference held in a county other than your home country. Recipients must be personal members of ALA for at least one full year.

Application deadline is January 1, 2016.

Other scholarships and opportunities

Rovelstad Scholarship in International Librarianship 2016 – Awarded by the Council on Library and Information Resources to encourage students who have an interest in international library work and enable them to participate in IFLA early in their careers. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited school of library and information science at the time of the 2016 IFLA annual meeting as well as to be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. The scholarships fund conference registration, passport fee (if applicable), international economy-class air travel, ground transportation, meals, and lodging.

The deadline is January 29, 2016.
How to apply

IFLA 2016 Volunteer Opportunities – 300 to 400 volunteers are sought to assist IFLA attendants during the conference. Financial benefits of volunteering include free registration if you commit to three half days of volunteering, complimentary lunches on the Congress site on the days of service and a certificate of appreciation.

Application will be accepted through May 1, 2016.
