Impulsreferate:

  • Yvonne Friese: ZBW Leibniz-Informationszentrum Wirtschaft, Kiel
  • Kristin Futterlieb: Max-Planck-Institut zur Erforschung multireligiöser und multiethnischer Gesellschaften, Göttingen

Wir sehn uns auf dem 101. Deutscher Bibliothekar(Innen)tag “Bibliotheken – Tore zur Welt des Wissens”, Hamburg 22. – 25. Mai 2012.

Library 2.011 revisited

 Library 2.011 worldwide virtual conference

Remember the  Library 2.011 worldwide virtual conference from last year? Well, if not, now you can watch the recordings of your favorite Session.

How about “Successful paths for new librarians: best practices, models and recommendations” from our one and only Loida Garcia-Febo. Together with  Prof. Dr. Claudia Lux, IFLA Past President and Director General of the Foundation Central and Regional Library Berlin and Anca Rapeanu, Cristina Vaileanu, Monica Avram from IREX, Biblionet Romania they talked about Best practices and recommendations from worldwide library senior professionals and tested and proven models for new librarians.

Abstract:

This session presents best practices, models and recommendations to help new librarians develop their careers. It speaks to the concerns experienced by new professionals regarding rapidly changing skills to help them secure jobs. Additionally, strategies for successful education paths and participation in library associations are also included. Attendees will walk away with practical ideas to tailor to their own needs and situations. Often new librarians express their desire to know ‘how others made it.’ Daily, we can read blog posts and messages asking what is needed to find a job, to be part of a committee at a library association, and how to interact within various library environments. This webinar will explore answers to these, and will direct attendees to tested and proved resources. A Q&A section is included to encourage conversation between speakers and attendees. The program is presented by IFLA Continuing Professional Development in the Workplace and Learning (CPDWL) and IFLA New Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG).

Now you can watch a recording via Blackboard Collaborate.

Great Talk.

Please do not submit a session if your are a vendor or a vendor representative. While presentation proposals will be accepted through April 7th, session acceptances will start to be issued on March 26th, at which time presenters will be given a chance to use a scheduling calendar to pick an available time to present. All sessions will be held in Blackboard Collaborate (previously Elluminate), and training sessions will be available both “live” and in recorded form.

We particularly encourage those who are working on (or have completed!) chapters or the 5th-anniversary Classroom 2.0 book project to present, and for those presenting to consider producing a book chapter! Because this adds preparation time, we are extending the book chapter deadline from this Thursday, March 15th, to the date of the conference, April 21st. For those who have already submitted their chapters (and what a great batch we have received so far!), we’ll arrange some special treatment for you as a reward for your good work!

  • Professional development, values and strategy – the means for building strong libraries for the future!
    • Catharina Isberg, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
    • page: 35
    • Abstract: The library and information sector is undergoing massive change. In a changing world we must create environments that promote strong development to ensure a viable future and a library that provides benefits to all our customers. Professional development is an essential component of this environment. It must be in line with the organization’s strategy and values. Changes in customer expectations, behavior and technological development make it even more important to form the library’s identity and prioritize our activities. Values, strategy and professional development go hand in hand with the development process. Staff participation in the development process produces a climate that is creative and a means of ensuring success in the future. At the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences University Library we have worked with professional development, strategy and values as well as the concepts of staff empowerment and leadership. This effort has included all staff members and the results have been excellent.
  • Developing leadership competencies in librarians
    • Mary Wilkins Jordan, Simmons College
    • page: 37
    • Abstract: What makes a good director? How does a librarian know she has the competencies needed to be an effective manager-leader? How does the library board or community know what to look for in a director? What should the library profession look for in their rising managers? There are not clear answers to these questions right now. But development of a set of research-based competencies will give answers to these questions, and will give a foundation for other research-based ideas to be developed to assist manager-leaders in the library. The research objective for this study is to refine a set of competencies, identified from the literature, through the opinions of current public library directors. The development of manager/leaders in the library world is too important to be left to chance. Using a research-based set of competencies as a foundation should help in the development of training opportunities for librarians who wish to be successful in their positions as directors.

And many more. Have a look.
