New librarians are positioning themselves as library leaders in academia, libraries, and professional associations. This event aims to address key themes and leading trends to provide library services while changing attitudes and expectations on the way. The conference organising committee wishes to showcase examples of best practice in how to develop new leaders, services, and inclusion of new professionals in decision-making processes through both research based scholarly presentations and experiential and practical stories of successes and lessons learned. The organisers are particularly interested in receiving proposals for presentations on any of the following, or related, key themes and issues :

  • How to internationalize careers
  • New librarian paradigm
  • Mobile librarian
  • Real-time librarian
  • Advocating for library associations to include new professionals in their agenda

We welcome and encourage proposals from first-time conference presenters, librarians, library school students, and information workers new to the profession. Continue reading »

NPSIG at BOBCATSSS 2010!

From January 25 to 27, BOBCATSSS 2010 will take place in Parma, Italy. The New Professionals SIG will actively participate in the symposium by offering a workshop as well as a presentation. Our workshop on Day 1 is entitled “Bridging the gap – Involving new professionals in the international development of our profession in the digital world” and will be hosted together with current IFLA President Ellen Tise. After an introduction to IFLA and to the NPSIG we are going to ask the participants to brainstorm on three topics:

  • Support of New Professionals on a national level
  • Recruitment of New Professionals on an international level
  • Web-based component to get New Professionals more involved in the IFLA community

The findings of the brainstorming and the following discussion will provide a basis for re-defining the mission and objectives of the NPSIG. We also hope to improve the work of our Special Interest Group. During a panel on education in the 21st century on Day 2 we will get another chance to present background and scope of the NPSIG and to discuss the workshop findings with the audience.

See you in Parma!
